Our school is a happy school, where relationships are positive, respect is prevalent and expectations are high.  We challenge all members of our school community to “be kind, try your best and follow the rules” and our students are our greatest asset, never failing to inspire and impress staff and visitors.  Our staff and students work incredibly hard to ensure that the school community continues to thrive.  Our students are active and engaged, and appreciate the effort and support that staff provide.  Staff have high expectations of all students, whatever their starting point; students have the drive and ambition to meet these expectations. Our GCSE results in 2022 were the best in the school’s history, testament to the way that our students and staff have worked together to create a positive, ambitious and caring learning environment.

Governors are seeking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated teacher to join our high achieving school as Assistant Curriculum Leader of Physical Education and Health.  If you have a natural passion and enthusiasm for Physical Education and Health, clear leadership attributes and a strong desire to help all students and staff reach their full potential, then we would be very pleased to hear from you.

Alongside a track record of excellent academic achievement in Physical Education and Health, the department provides a supportive learning environment committed to developing students’, participation, engagement, enjoyment and aspiration in Physical Education.  We develop a passion and love of sport and health in our young people, encouraging participation in sport outside of the classroom and beyond school years.  You will be joining a committed team of PE specialists that strives for creativity and share a commitment to strong teaching and learning of Physical Education and Health. The department is a strong and effective department, delivering excellent learning opportunities and very good outcomes.

The curriculum aims are embedded across the school so that students learn to love our subject and gain an appreciation of the lifelong benefits that are associated with participation and engagement. Physical Education and Health are incredibly popular subjects in Key Stage 4 where our students thrive on the depth and breadth of their new learning opportunities.  In core PE, we have active and enthusiastic participation from all students and enjoy a wide and varied extracurricular offer with excellent engagement and we enjoy significant successes in local and national competitions.

We enjoy excellent relationships with our primary schools and regularly host city wide sporting events for primary schools across the city.  We have excellent facilities, including a fully equipped Sports Hall, with indoor cricket facilities, to our wide and expansive fields and are in the process of installing a new MUGA to enhance the student experience still further.

We offer core PE to all students in all year groups and in addition offer GCSE Physical Education, Cambridge National Sport and Cambridge National Health and Social Care – all taught by specialist PE and Health teachers.

We are eager to hear from you if you are:

  • Able to lead by example.
  • An excellent practitioner who believes that all students can achieve.
  • Able to excel in an environment where students genuinely enjoy school and have a love of learning.
  • Ambitious for yourself and our students, and able to thrive in our supportive, collaborative environment.
  • Able to communicate effectively with staff and students.

In return for your hard work, we offer a rewarding and exciting environment where students are keen to learn and staff are “happy to work here and proud of our school” (Ofsted Feb 2023) – feeling valued and cared for. We welcome applications from experienced teachers with an aspiration to move into a more senior position or develop their career in an exciting and ambitious department. We will provide outstanding support and guidance to ensure that the successful candidate quickly becomes part of our school community.

We welcome applications from those of the Catholic faith, all faiths and of no faith but who are supportive of our Christian values and ethos. We encourage you to visit our school so that you can see how our values and ethos permeate everything that we do.

If you would like to arrange a visit or gather any further information, please email info@cardinalheenan.com

Please note that covering letters are not required and will not be used as part of the shortlisting or selection process. There is a section of the application form where candidates may offer further information to support their application. This can take the form of a letter of no more than two sides of A4.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure will be sought, along with other relevant pre-employment checks, for the successful applicant. We promote diversity and want a workforce which reflects the population of Leeds.
